Ms. Jitte's Blog

Hello, My name is Onajitte Okagbare and I am currently a senior at Northern Michigan University studying special education with a focus on emotional impairments. I have lived in Michigan my whole life, but never visited the Upper Peninsula before coming to NMU. I am currently a member of the student organization Black Student Union on campus. I also work as a substitute teacher for Marquette public schools. I enjoy spending time with family, friends, and my dog!

I have wanted to be an educator for as long as I can remember, but it took me a while to decide on special education. At a young age, I was diagnosed with ADHD and during my freshman year of high school, I was diagnosed with dyscalculia. I spent years trying to understand my learning disabilities and for much of that time, I was angry at myself. Unfortunately, I was not able to find a teacher with the patience and care to help me succeed until my sophomore year of high school. Thanks to her I was able to find peace with my diagnoses, and graduate with high honors. I want to be the teacher I needed growing up, which is why I chose special education. This is my portfolio for technology for educators where you will see artifacts and information on each technology standard.
